It’s rather hard trying to be genuine (I’m not trying it, in fact) with a so repeated topic like Christmas. So, yes, Merry Christmas.
Now a funny TV advertisment:

This post is in Spanish. Sorry. If you can read Spanish, click on the Spanish flag.
It basically explains the diference between “informatics”, “computer science” and “using word or excel”. Unfortunately, in Spain all of them are called “informatics”.
This post is about the current f*cking situation the Computer Scientist are living in Spain. Their job is usually paid 900€ and are really underestimated. Even worse: better job positions are taken by non Computer Engineers (usually Electronic Engineers called here “Telecommunication Engineers”), because the latter has a legacy well-built reputation (but not skills).
The current demonstrations and strikes in Spain are due to this unsustainable situation.
The last part of the post talks about Dijkstra and its guessing about the current low level the (Spanish) University is going to:
So, if I look into my foggy crystal ball at the future of computing science education, I overwhelmingly see the depressing picture of “Business as usual”. The universities will continue to lack the courage to teach hard science, they will continue to misguide the students, and each next stage of infantilization of the curriculum will be hailed as educational progress.
This is also related with the Bologna Process. As the subjects and the carrer changes to adapt to the Bologna Process, the university will low the teaching level.
